SEO for Roofers
SEO for roofers means ranking in Google Maps and organic results for the roofing jobs people actually search, like 'roof repairs' (about 5,400 searches a month in Australia), 'roof restoration' (3,600) and 'roof leak repair' (2,900). It involves a Business Profile set up as a roofing contractor, a page for each job type, real before-and-after photos, and content timed for storm and wet seasons. Roofers SEO typically costs $800–$3,000 a month in the Australian market, with early movement in 6–12 weeks.
- Month-to-month. No lock-in contracts
- Plain-English reporting tied to leads, not vanity metrics
- Perth-based, working with businesses across Australia

Does SEO work for roofers?
Yes. Roofing is searched by job, and the numbers are solid: about 5,400 Australians a month search “roof repairs”, another 5,400 search “roofer near me” and 3,600 search “roof restoration”. Roofers who rank in the Maps top three and have a page for each job win most of those calls, without paying per click.
Roofing also suits SEO because the jobs are big. A restoration or re-roof can be worth several thousand dollars or more, so a handful of extra jobs a month changes the year. Customers research these jobs before calling, compare quotes and look at photos, which rewards roofers with detailed job pages over those with a single “Services” list.
The catch is timing. Roofing demand moves with the weather, and SEO takes months to build. If you start in the middle of storm season, you’ve missed the window for this year.

Which roofing jobs should you target?
Target each job you want more of with its own page: roof repairs, leak repairs, restorations, re-roofing, metal roof replacement, gutters and, if you’re licensed, asbestos roof replacement. These have different customers and different search volumes. Google’s Keyword Planner shows clear differences in how often each is searched and how much advertisers pay for the click, which is a good proxy for commercial value.
| Roofing search (Australia) | Monthly searches | Average cost per click | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| roof repairs | 5,400 | $24.66 | Core urgent job; worth a strong page and Maps presence |
| roofer near me | 5,400 | $17.63 | Won in the Maps pack, not by a page |
| roof plumber | 4,400 | $23.99 | Metal roofs, gutters and flashings; licensed work in most states |
| roof restoration | 3,600 | $18.18 | High-value, research-heavy; rewards photos and process detail |
| roof leak repair | 2,900 | $23.44 | Urgent, weather-driven; often the first call after a storm |
| roof painting | 2,900 | $6.28 | Lower click value; often price shoppers |
| gutter replacement | 1,600 | $21.02 | Solid add-on job; pairs with restorations |
| roof replacement | 720 | $23.82 | Smaller volume, very high job value |
| re roofing | 260 | $12.65 | Same job, different words; cover it on the replacement page |
| asbestos roof removal | 170 | $17.58 | Licensed work only; older homes |
| colorbond roofing | 9,900 | $1.95 | Mostly product research; a guide page can capture it |

The interesting row is the last one. “Colorbond roofing” is searched more than any job term, but advertisers barely bid on it, because most people are researching colours and products. A genuinely useful re-roofing guide that compares tile and metal, with your own photos, can rank for that research and turn some of it into quotes.
Each job page should cover what the job involves, what affects the price, how long it takes, what warranty you offer, the areas you cover and before-and-after photos from your own work.
How do storms and seasons change roofing searches?
Roofing searches rise with rain and storms. “Roof leak repair” searches in Australia reached 5,400 in March 2026 and dropped to 1,300 by September, and “roof repairs” ranged from 6,600 to 2,900 over the same year. The peak months differ by region, so plan content around your local wet or storm season.
Seasons worth planning around:
- East coast storm season. The Bureau of Meteorology says Australia’s east coast has the highest risk of severe thunderstorms from October to December, including southern Queensland. Roofers in south-east Queensland and NSW should have storm and hail pages live before October.
- Southern winter rain. In Perth and Adelaide, where most rain falls in winter, leaks show up with the first heavy winter rains. Publish and refresh leak content in late summer and autumn.
- Dry-season restoration work. Restorations and repaints need dry weather, so push those pages and your Business Profile posts in the months before your dry season.
Storm searches themselves are small: “storm damage roof repair” averages about 20 searches a month nationally, spiking to 70 in March 2026, and “hail damage roof repair” about 30. After a storm, people search for the symptom, so your leak and repair pages should mention storm damage, make-safe work and insurance claims.
Insurance work runs differently. Many insurers use their own panels of builders and repairers, so if you want that work, relationships with insurers and assessors matter as much as rankings. For homeowners who call you directly, the QBCC advises contacting the insurer before starting any work, to avoid problems with the claim. A clear “storm damage and insurance repairs” page that explains this builds trust.
Storms also bring door-knockers. Under Australian Consumer Law, unsolicited sales visits can’t happen on Sundays, public holidays, or before 9am and after 6pm on weekdays (5pm on Saturdays), and the customer gets a 10 business day cooling-off period, during which the seller can’t take payment or supply services. If you knock on doors after a storm, follow those rules. If you don’t, say so on your website: it’s a point of difference.
What licences and safety rules apply to roofers in each state?
Roofing licences differ by state and by the work: metal roofing and gutters are usually licensed as roof plumbing, tiling has its own class in some states, and larger jobs can need a builder’s licence or registration. Roof work over 2 metres is high risk construction work under workplace safety laws in most states, which needs a safe work method statement (SWMS) before work starts.
| State | Licensing (plain-English summary) | Advertising |
|---|---|---|
| Western Australia | Replacing a roof covering with a different weight or shape will likely need a building permit, and permit work over $20,000 must be done by a registered builder or with owner-builder approval. Painting work over $1,000 needs a registered painter, so check how this applies to roof painting and coating | Builders and painters must include their registration number in advertisements, including websites (Building Services (Registration) Act 2011, section 8) |
| New South Wales | A contractor licence is needed for residential building or trade work over $5,000 including labour, materials and GST. Roof plumbing (gutters, flashings and metal roof coverings) and roof tiling are separate licence classes | Licensee’s name and licence number in all advertising |
| Victoria | BPC registration is needed for domestic building work over $10,000. The roofing (stormwater) plumbing class covers installing, repairing and replacing metal roof coverings, flashings and roof drainage | Check BPC guidance |
| Queensland | A QBCC licence is needed for building work over $3,300. Roof classes include roof and wall cladding (not terracotta or concrete tiles), roof tiling, and plumbing and drainage | Licensed name, licence number and a statement that you’re licensed under the QBCC Act, on websites, social media, directories and vehicle signage |
Two rules apply almost everywhere:
- Working at heights. WorkSafe WA and WorkSafe Victoria both treat construction work with a risk of a person falling more than 2 metres as high risk construction work, and a SWMS must be prepared before it starts.
- Asbestos roofs. Removing more than 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos, such as asbestos cement roof sheeting on older homes, needs a Class B asbestos removal licence. If you don’t hold one, say you work with a licensed removalist rather than implying you do it yourself.
This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. Check your state regulator (Building and Energy WA, NSW Fair Trading, the Building and Plumbing Commission in Victoria or the QBCC) for the work you do.
From an SEO point of view, these rules are also trust signals. Licence numbers, insurance, height-safety practices and asbestos licensing, shown clearly, set you apart from the operator in an unmarked ute.
How do roofers rank in Google Maps?
Roofers rank in Maps with a complete Google Business Profile, steady reviews and a website that backs up what the profile claims. Most roofers work from home or a yard, so set the profile up as a service-area business, choose “Roofing contractor” as the primary category, and list each roofing job as a service.
What makes the difference for roofers:
- Photos from every job. Before, during and after shots, from the same angle, uploaded regularly. Roofing is visual, and customers compare photos before calling.
- Reviews that mention the job. Ask every customer, and send the review link by SMS when the job’s done. Google’s policy bans offering discounts or rewards for reviews, and bans asking only happy customers.
- Service areas you’ll actually drive to. Ranking is strongly tied to your verified location, so use region pages on your website to reach further.
- Consistent details. The same business name, phone number and website on your profile, site and directories.
A virtual office or a friend’s address in another suburb breaches Google’s guidelines and can get the profile suspended. For the wider Maps picture, see our local SEO service.
How much does SEO for roofers cost?
Typical Australian market ranges for roofer SEO are $800–$1,500 per month for a single-location roofer in a lower-competition area, and $1,500–$3,000 for competitive metro areas or roofers offering several services, such as restorations, re-roofing and gutters. These are market ranges, not guarantees.
| Scope | Typical Australian market range |
|---|---|
| Single-location roofer, lower-competition area | $800–$1,500 per month |
| Competitive metro area or multi-service roofer | $1,500–$3,000 per month |
| One-off SEO audit | $500–$2,500 |
| Google Ads management (ad spend separate) | $500–$1,500 per month |
A hypothetical worked example: a roofer in Newcastle makes $3,000 gross profit on an average tile restoration. One extra restoration a month covers a $1,500 retainer twice over. A single re-roof can cover several months. Expect early Maps movement in 6–12 weeks and meaningful enquiry growth in 3–6 months, so start before your busy season.
If you need calls this month, Google Ads for tradies can fill the gap while SEO builds. See SEO pricing for what drives cost up or down. Work is month-to-month, with no lock-in.

FAQ
SEO for Roofers: common questions
Does SEO work for roofing companies?
Yes. People search for roofing jobs by name, such as 'roof repairs', 'roof restoration' or 'roofer near me', each with thousands of searches a month in Australia. Roofers in the Maps top three and with strong job pages get most of those calls. Restorations and re-roofs are high value, so a few extra jobs a month usually covers the cost.
How long does roofing SEO take?
Business Profile fixes and new reviews often show movement in Maps within 6–12 weeks. Ranking job pages across a wider service area usually takes 3–6 months, depending on competition. Start before your busy season, not during it.
What licence does a roofer need?
It depends on the state and the work. NSW requires a contractor licence for residential work over $5,000, with separate roof plumbing and roof tiling classes. Queensland requires a QBCC licence for work over $3,300, Victoria requires BPC registration for domestic building work over $10,000, and in WA permit work over $20,000 must be done by a registered builder.
Should roofers target storm damage keywords?
Yes, but expect smaller numbers than you'd think. 'Storm damage roof repair' averages only about 20 searches a month nationally, while 'roof leak repair' averages 2,900 and 'roof repairs' 5,400. After a storm, most people search for the leak, so make sure those pages mention storm damage and insurance claims.
Do roofers need a page for each suburb?
Not for every suburb. Pages for the regions you work in, written with real local detail like housing age, common roof types and coastal or bushfire exposure, do more than dozens of thin suburb pages. Your Business Profile covers the area close to your base.
Can roofers show before-and-after photos?
Yes, and they're some of the most persuasive content a roofer can have. Use your own photos from real jobs, taken from the same angle, and add the suburb and the job type. Don't use manufacturers' or other roofers' images as your own.
How much does SEO cost for a roofer?
