How much does SEO cost in Perth?
SEO in Perth typically costs $800–$6,000+ a month for an ongoing retainer, with the price set mainly by how competitive your industry is and how many services or locations you need to rank. A one-off in-depth technical audit costs $500–$2,500, and an SEO consultant charges $150–$250 an hour.
| Business type | Typical Perth monthly range | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|
| Local SEO, single location, low-competition trade | $800–$1,500 | A plumber, electrician or cleaner serving one part of Perth |
| Competitive local or multi-service business | $1,500–$3,000 | A builder, dentist or physio competing across several suburbs |
| Legal, finance, medical, ecommerce or multi-location | $3,000–$6,000+ | Law firms, brokers, clinic groups and online stores |
| One-off in-depth technical audit | $500–$2,500 | A site with a traffic drop, migration or known issues |
| SEO consultant | $150–$250 an hour | A business with a developer or marketer to do the work |
Three things move you up or down a band:
- Who already ranks. If page one for “family lawyer Perth” is full of firms with years of links, it takes more work to compete than for “tile regrouting Baldivis”.
- How many pages you need. One service in one suburb is a small job. Eight services across the northern and southern suburbs is a content program.
- The state of your site. A slow site with indexing problems needs fixing before new content will rank.
Results timing doesn’t change much with budget at the low end: expect early movement in 6–12 weeks and meaningful lead growth in 3–6 months, with competitive terms taking 6–12 months. More budget mainly lets you compete for harder searches and more of them. For how we scope retainers, see our SEO agency page.
What’s included in SEO packages in Perth?
A proper SEO package covers technical fixes, on-page optimisation, Google Business Profile work, new service or suburb pages, link building and reporting. The tiers differ mostly in how many pages and links you get each month, not in the list of services, so always ask for the quantities.
| Work | Starter local ($800–$1,500) | Growth ($1,500–$3,000) | Competitive ($3,000–$6,000+) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Technical and on-page fixes | Core pages | Whole site | Whole site, ongoing |
| Google Business Profile and citations | Yes | Yes | Yes, per location |
| New service or suburb pages | 1–2 a month | 2–4 a month | A planned content program |
| Link building | Local citations and a few local links | Steady outreach | Digital PR and outreach |
| Conversion work on key pages | Basic | Yes | Yes, with testing |
| Reporting | Calls and enquiries | Calls, enquiries and revenue pages | Full reporting, per location |
Ecommerce has its own cost drivers (category pages, product feeds, faceted navigation), covered on our ecommerce SEO page.
Where does a $1,500 a month SEO retainer actually go?
At an effective rate of about $150 an hour, the bottom of the typical consultant range, $1,500 a month buys roughly 10 hours of work. Here’s a realistic split for a Perth trade on that budget. It’s an illustration of how the hours add up, not a fixed scope.
| Task | Hours a month | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Reporting and tracking checks | 1 | Calls and form enquiries from organic search, explained in plain English |
| Technical monitoring and fixes | 1.5 | Search Console errors, speed, indexing and broken links dealt with |
| Google Business Profile | 1 | Posts, photos, services, review replies and Q&A kept current |
| One new service or suburb page | 4 | Research, writing, on-page setup and internal links for a page built to rank |
| Links and citations | 2 | Local directories, supplier and association links, outreach |
| Strategy and communication | 0.5 | A short monthly call and next month’s priorities |
| Total | 10 |
Now run the same maths on a $500 package. At the same rate that’s about 3.3 hours. Reporting, profile upkeep and admin take most of it, which leaves no room for a new page or real link work. That’s not a criticism of any agency’s effort. It’s arithmetic.
Two ways to check a quote against this:
- Ask the agency what hourly rate they work to internally, and divide the monthly fee by it.
- Ask how many of those hours go to new content and links. If the answer is “none” or “it varies”, that’s where the cuts are.
Is affordable SEO in Perth worth it?
Affordable SEO in Perth is worth it when the scope matches what you need, and a waste when it doesn’t. Packages around $300–$500 a month usually cover reporting, small on-page tweaks and profile upkeep. That can hold rankings you already have, but it rarely funds the new pages and links needed to win new ones.
What gets cut first in a cheap package is always the same: content and links, because they’re the most time-consuming work. You can see the pattern in what Perth providers publish. On Halo Digital’s SEO prices page, the $500 Basic plan lists keyword research, onsite optimisation, Google Business optimisation and reporting, while more articles and link building are added in the $750 and $1,250 plans. On Geoffrey Digital’s SEO plans page, new blog and landing pages and local citations appear in the $1,795 Competitive plan rather than the $445 Local plan (their prices include GST).
Those providers are upfront about what each tier includes, which is exactly what you want. The problem is buying a maintenance-level package and expecting growth-level results.
Cheap SEO makes sense when:
- You already rank well and want basic upkeep.
- You serve a small area with weak competition.
- You’ll write your own pages and just want technical help.
It doesn’t when you need more enquiries in a competitive category, or when the package promises page one for a low monthly fee. If it’s growth you need on a tight budget, the better buy is often a one-off SEO audit and a few consultant hours, then doing the work yourself.
What hidden costs sit outside SEO prices in Perth?
The monthly fee is rarely the full cost. Setup fees, minimum terms, GST and work quoted separately can add hundreds or thousands of dollars to what looks like a cheap plan. Before you sign, ask for the total cost of the first six months, including your exit.
Setup fees. Some Perth providers charge a one-off fee for the audit, keyword research and tracking setup. For example, SEO Perth Expert’s setup fee page lists a $220 fee including GST, with work starting after a six-month service agreement is signed. A setup fee isn’t wrong in itself. Just make sure you know what it buys and that the work is handed over to you.
Lock-in contracts. Minimum terms of three, six or twelve months are common. Over six months, a $1,500 retainer is a $9,000 commitment, whether or not enquiries arrive. Month-to-month terms put the risk back on the agency, which is how we work.
GST. Some providers publish prices including GST and others exclude it. On a $2,000 retainer that’s a $200 a month difference, so check before comparing.
Work quoted separately. Common extras include website rebuilds, copywriting beyond the agreed pages, photography, review software and Google Ads management and spend.
Account ownership. If the agency owns your Google Business Profile, analytics or website, leaving can cost you your history. You should own every account, with the agency added as a user.
How do you compare SEO quotes like-for-like?
Put every quote into the same table: hours, pages, links, reporting, term and total six-month cost. Package names like “Gold” or “Growth” mean nothing on their own. Two quotes at the same price can buy completely different amounts of work.
| Ask every agency | A good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| How many hours a month does this buy? | A number, or an hourly rate you can divide by |
| How many new pages a month, and on what topics? | A count and a list matched to your services and suburbs |
| What links will you build, and from where? | Named types and sources, shared in a live list |
| What will the monthly report show? | Calls and form enquiries from organic search, not just rankings |
| Is GST included, and is there a setup fee? | A clear yes or no, in writing |
| What’s the minimum term and exit process? | Month-to-month, or a short term with 30 days’ notice |
| Who owns the accounts and content? | You do |
Walk away from any quote that guarantees a number-one ranking. Google controls rankings, and a guarantee usually means ranking for a phrase nobody searches.

FAQ
SEO Pricing Perth: common questions
How much does SEO cost in Perth?
Most Perth businesses pay $800–$6,000+ a month for an ongoing SEO retainer. A single-location trade usually sits at $800–$1,500, competitive or multi-service businesses at $1,500–$3,000, and legal, finance, medical, ecommerce or multi-location work at $3,000–$6,000+. One-off audits cost $500–$2,500.
Are cheap SEO packages in Perth worth it?
Rarely, if you need more enquiries. A $300–$500 package doesn't fund enough hours for new pages or link building once reporting and admin are paid for. It can suit a business that only needs basic upkeep on a site that already ranks.
Do Perth SEO agencies charge a setup fee?
Some do and some don't. A setup fee usually covers the audit, keyword research and tracking setup. Ask exactly what it buys, and make sure the research and tracking accounts are handed over to you.
How long is a typical SEO contract in Perth?
It ranges from month-to-month to six or twelve months. Minimum terms of three to six months are common. We work month-to-month, so you can stop if the enquiries don't come.
Is SEO cheaper than Google Ads?
Over time it usually costs less per lead, because rankings keep producing enquiries without a per-click charge. It's slower, though: expect early movement in 6–12 weeks and meaningful lead growth in 3–6 months. Ads buy leads straight away and stop the day you stop paying.
Should I hire a consultant or pay a monthly retainer?
Hire a consultant at $150–$250 an hour if you have someone who can make the changes. Pay a retainer if you need the work done for you every month. A one-off audit is a sensible first step for either.
Why do SEO quotes in Perth vary so much?
Because they buy different amounts of work. The biggest drivers are how strong the businesses already ranking are, how many pages need building, and the state of your current site. Ask every agency to list hours, pages and links per month so you can compare.
